What is SeeMe City? Painted city streets where every building is a sign

Published

Ad-free post. SeeMe City sells signs on its street; this post explains how it works.

In short: SeeMe City is a website where you walk a painted city street, tap signs and find deals. There is a street in 10 US cities, each with 200 buildings, and every building is a sign. Businesses lease one for a year, from $29, and can add a coupon.

What is SeeMe City?

SeeMe City is a set of painted, virtual streets, one in each of 10 US cities. Each street has 200 buildings, and every building is a sign. Miami has Ocean Ave, New York has Broadway and Los Angeles has Sunset Blvd. You walk them on a phone or a computer. Drag or swipe to move along the street, and tap any sign to see the business, its offer and a link to its website.

Looking around is free. Walk Ocean Ave in Miami, or pick another city.

Ocean Ave by day: pastel buildings with signs on every one, palm trees and a bus on the street.

Are the streets real?

No. Each street is made up and inspired by its city: art deco hotels and palm trees in Miami, brownstones and theater marquees in New York, adobe and saguaro cactus in Phoenix. The buildings are painted, and none of them is a real place. The skyline far behind each street is a painted nod to its city. SeeMe City uses no real business logos, unless a business uploads its own.

Some signs are samples with made-up names. They are marked Sample, so you can tell them from real businesses.

How do people use the street?

People drag or swipe along the street, tap signs to read about each business, and open the Deals list to find coupons. The Deals list shows coupons nearest first, and every code copies with one tap. There is also a Deals page you can read like any web page. Our guide to how coupons work has the details.

Does the street change during the day?

Yes. Each street follows its own city's clock, so it is pastel by day and neon by night. The weather comes from a National Weather Service station in each city, so you may see rain, storms with lightning, clouds or fog. The streets also dress up for holidays, such as Halloween all of October.

Who is SeeMe City for?

SeeMe City is for shoppers who like to browse and for small businesses and creators who want a low-cost sign. Shoppers can wander the street, find coupons and follow a link to a business's website. Businesses lease a building and put their name and offer on it.

How does a business get a sign on SeeMe City?

A business leases a building for one year and pays once by card. A small building is $29 a year, a mid-size building is $49 and a tall building is $79. Each price includes the main sign.

A shop sign over the door adds $10 a year, and a rooftop billboard adds $30 a year. So a building can carry one, two or three signs. Moving signs are priced by the month: the side of a bus is $49 and the blimp is $199.

Nothing renews by itself. See all the prices, or read how to advertise for under $100 a year.

What can go on a sign?

A sign can carry your business name, your logo, your products, an offer, a movie poster or album art. It has to be yours to use, and it has to follow the Ad Rules. You can make a sign in about a minute with the sign maker, or upload your own design. Our sign tips can help.

Who checks the signs?

A person checks every sign before it goes live, usually within a day. If a sign can't be approved, the buyer gets a full refund. Every paid sign is labeled "Ad", and links to advertisers are marked sponsored, so you can always tell what is paid.

What does a business get besides the sign?

Each building gets its own web page, and the owner gets a private page. The building page shows the business name, its offer and a link to its website, and search engines can read it. Here is an example page.

The private page lets the owner change the coupon any time. It also shows views, time on screen, link clicks, coupon copies and card opens for the last 30 days. Owners can share their building link with customers.

Which cities have a street?

SeeMe City has a street in Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Phoenix. The street nearest you opens first. To switch, open the menu on any street and choose Change city, or type a ZIP code.

More cities open in order of waitlist size. You can join the waitlist on the home page.
